Mediation and Couples Counseling
Mediation is essentially a negotiation facilitated by a neutral third party. It is generally a short-term, structured, task-oriented, and “hands-on” process. Mediation allows two disputing parties to reach a mutual agreement by utilizing a neutral mediator who identifies the issues/desired outcome of each party and facilitates a dialogue with the goal of reaching an agreement between the parties. It helps people find common ground and deal with unrealistic expectations. The role of the mediator is to interpret concerns, relay information between the parties, frame issues, and define the problems. The mediation process does not focus on truth or fault. Questions of which party is right or wrong are generally less important than the issue of how the problem can be resolved. This can be achieved either by having both parties in the same room together or in separate rooms with the mediator providing the ongoing information in real time so that the disputing parties have a choice of the participation in a non face-to-face setting. We can offer creative solutions and assist in drafting a final settlement.
Couples Therapy is offered also as a less structured option to enhancing communication, intimacy and conflict resolution. Create Change is happy to be offering both of these private pay solutions to couples and families experiencing stress, loss, trauma, and other situations that break down the ability to problem solve and communication effectively. We look forward to providing support in these new areas.
